Logbook Servicing

When you purchase a new vehicle, the manufacturer provides you with a warranty that covers the cost of mechanical failure. This warranty is voided however if you don’t have your vehicle serviced regularly by a certified mechanic and record that service in the vehicle’s logbook. Frequent logbook services also increase resale value and reduce the frequency of need for repairs

Pakenham Auto Works certified mechanics can provide logbook services for all petrol and diesel vehicles.

Inspections

Whenever you’re planning on selling or otherwise transferring ownership of a vehicle, you are legally required to obtain a roadworthy certificate, issued by a licensed tester. Once the tester has completed a thorough check to ensure that your vehicle meets the requirements to be safely driven on Victorian roads, you will be issued with the roadworthy certificate.

Before you buy a second-hand vehicle, we recommend bringing it in for a pre-purchase inspection, that ensures you know exactly what you’re buying, and avoid any nasty surprises. Here at Pakenham Auto Works we also provide you with an estimated cost of repairs for you to factor into your pre-purchase inspection.

Brake services

Your brakes the most important safety feature your vehicle has. While other safety features mitigate the severity of a collision, your brakes are purely preventative, and the condition of your brakes is often the deciding factor between an accident and an emergency stop.

Your brakes suffer an impressive amount of wear, as they routinely bring tonnes of metal to a complete stop several times a day. For this reason we agree with brakes manufacturers that you should have your vehicles checked at least once a year.

Here at Pakenham Auto Works, we can provide the following brake services:

  • Brake component machining
  • Brake component replacement
  • Brake hose repairs
  • Brake restorations

If you haven’t had your brakes checked in a while, contact us today!

steering & Suspension

Faults and flaws in your vehicle’s suspension and steering drastically affect ride comfort and handling, causing body lean through corners and looseness in the steering wheel. Your suspension is also responsible for maximising the grip that your tyres exert on the road, so a poor suspension will also increase your stopping distance.

Here at Pakenham Auto Works, our expert mechanics can help you with:

  • Wheel alignments
  • Shock absorbers, springs and struts
  • Wheel balancing
  • Bushing replacements
  • Power steering repairs and replacement
  • Lift kits and 4WD upgrades

air conditioning

There’s nothing that ruins a summer drive faster than faulty air conditioning. Your air conditioning is also primed to fail right around summer, as disuse causes more damage than use does for aircon.

The multitude of rubber tubing that comprises most of your system dries up and cracks if not used, allowing the refrigerant gas to leak out and rob your AC of cooling power.

Here at Pakenham Auto Works we can completely repair your air conditioning, starting with replacing faulty condensers or compressors, then replacing any cracked tubing, and finally re-gassing your system with refrigerant once we’re sure it’s airtight.

If your aircon isn’t working properly, talk to us today!

Clutch & transmission

Responsible for transferring power from the engine to the wheels, the drivetrain is comprised of some of the most intricate and precise machinery in your vehicle.

Due to the sophisticated nature of this machinery, even minor flaws can quickly escalate into costly repairs.

If you notice a clicking noise at full turn, are having trouble changing gears, notice a grinding noise when you do so, or a burning smell coming from under the bonnet after a drive, you may have a problem with your vehicle’s drivetrain.

Here at Pakenham Auto Works, our expert mechanics can provide you with the following drivetrain repairs:

  • Clutch repairs
  • Automatic and manual gearbox repairs and servicing

If you’ve noticed any of the warning signs mentioned above, contact us today!

radiators & cooling systems

When your cooling system is malfunctioning, it not only decreases your fuel efficiency, but also your engine lifespan, as it damages the head gasket, pistons, and cylinders. If your thermostat is malfunctioning then this could be happening without you even knowing.

Pakenham Auto Works can help with the following cooling system problems:

  • Coolant flush and leak check
  • Head gasket replacement
  • Radiator/heater unit repair and replacement
  • Thermostat check and replacement

Diagnostics & Auto electrical

With the increasing complexity of modern vehicles, the on-board computer is responsible for monitoring more and more aspects of present day driving, from ignition, braking and monitoring fuel consumption to monitoring the engine and putting the vehicle into limp mode to prevent lasting damage.

Despite this increased sophistication, most vehicles still only have the one “Check engine light (CEL)” to tell you that the computer has detected a problem, but it can’t communicate what the problem is.

At Pakenham Auto Repairs our skilled auto electricians can perform:

  • Diagnostics
  • Battery test and replacement
  • Alternators and starter motors
  • Component test and replacement
  • Lighting Upgrades
  • Accessory installation
  • Solar/battery systems

If your CEL is staring up at you from the dash, contact us today!

tyres & Wheels

Keeping your tyres in good nick is important for both safety and control. Tyres with uneven wear offer drastically reduced grip, and the more wear on your treads, the less control you will have during wet road conditions.

Pakenham Auto Works can help you with:

  • Major tyre brands for all makes and models of:
    • Passenger car
    • 4WD
  • Wheel alignment
  • Tyre balancing
  • Tyre fitting
